How to Recall an Email in Outlook (And When It Works)

Recall only works between Microsoft 365 work accounts in the same organisation, and only on a message nobody has opened yet. Here is the exact path, and what to do when it fails.

How to Recall an Email in Outlook (And When It Works)
The short version of how to recall an email in Outlook: open Sent Items, double-click the message so it opens in its own window, then use Recall Message on the ribbon in new Outlook, or File > Info > Resend or Recall > Recall This Message in classic Outlook. It only works if you and the recipient are both on Microsoft 365 work or school accounts in the same organisation, and the recipient has not opened the message yet.

How we work

Every step checked before it reaches you.

Menus move, settings get renamed and features quietly disappear. So each guide is written against the vendor's current documentation rather than from memory, and says plainly when a fix depends on your version.
